     Welcome to the Economic Development page for the City of Hamlet. Here you will find information on economic development projects offered by the City. Façade Grant Program

     The program is funded through an appropriation in the annual general fund budget by the Hamlet City Council. The objective of the program is to improve the facades of downtown buildings so that after completion of work, citizens will notice a marked improvement in the appearance of the buildings. Commercial buildings must be zoned Central Business (B1) or General Business (B2), and located within the designated Main Street Project Area. A façade is defined as an individual storefront or commercial building side which faces a public right-of‐way or is otherwise visible to the general public from the street. A façade is the face of a building, especially the principal front that looks onto a street or open space.Qualifying projects are eligible for a grant at a minimum of five hundred dollars ($500) but not more than two thousand five hundred dollars ($2,500) per façade on a fifty/fifty (50/50) matching, reimbursement basis. At the discretion of the City and based on applications received, larger grants may be considered on a case by case basis.

     Applications will be reviewed for completeness and compliance with the criteria above by either the City Manager, Zoning Administrator, or the City Manager’s designee. Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant. Complete applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting of The City manager or his/her designee; a representative on and appointed by the City Planning Board; and, a representative appointed by and on the Hamlet Business Development Association.

Educational Opportunities
          Hamlet students in grades K-8 attend schools located within the city limits; Fairview Heights - grades K-5, Monroe Avenue - grades K-5 and Hamlet Middle School - grades 6-8. The Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy is located on County Home Road in Hamlet. High school students attend Richmond Senior High School, a consolidated county high school located five miles west of Hamlet.

          Richmond Senior High is a model for the state in consolidated high schools. A wide variety of courses are offered to the student body, from precollege to vocational. The TechPrep Program is a new concept for students to plan furthering their education at 2-year community colleges.

          Richmond Community College’s mission is to offer educational opportunities, cultural enrichment, and workforce development and training that will enhance the quality of students’ lives and support economic development in Richmond and Scotland counties. Established in 1964 and located in Hamlet, RCC serves approximately 10,000 students, with about 30 percent enrolled in curriculum programs and nearly 70 percent in workforce development programs. The College offers over 60 degrees, diplomas and certificates, along with college readiness courses, online classes and adult education services.
