Hamlet citizens enjoy ideal weather, which prevails year-round as Hamlet recreational opportunities offer a varied spectrum of activities. Our parks and Recreational Department offers structured seasonal sports programs where people of all ages and interests are certain to find enjoyable pursuits. Facilities include lighted tennis courts and soccer fields, gymnasium and playgrounds. Hamlet has had 8 of our young men who played in its recreational league to go on and play professional baseball and football. They include: Franklin Stubbs-LA Dodgers, Glenn Harris-Cleveland Indians, Louis Breeden-Cincinnati Bengals, James Hamilton-Jacksonville Jaguars, Mike Quick-Philadelphia Eagles, Oscar Sturgis-Dallas Cowboys, Doug Thomas-Seattle Seahawks, and Perry Williams-New York Giants. In addition, Hamlet Senior Center sponsors recreation to competitive programs for older adults 55 years of age and older.
Around the county are public and private golf courses with our neighboring Moore County and Pinehurst offering 38 courses, challenging golfers from the novice to the professionals.
Hamlet City Lake area offers picnicking and fishing. Future park improvements already underway will include a botanical wonderland consisting of nature trails, water areas for paddle boating, visitor’s center and other recreational sports.

An informational kiosk was recently placed at the Hamlet City Lake along Veteran’s Drive. City Employee, Marlene Swanson, and husband David, personally built and contributed the kiosk to the City of Hamlet as part of the City Lake Improvement Project.
