Treatment Plant Technician- Water Plant
Duties and Responsibilities Work
An employee in this class performs a variety of operational, laboratory, and maintenance duties designed to produce safe treatment of potable water. Work is performed on an assigned or rotating shift. Work includes monitoring the plant's operation through observation, mechanical readings and the results of standard chemical and biological tests and to make necessary adjustments in the process as conditions or test results dictate. Other duties include performing standard laboratory duties and tests and assisting with plant and facilities maintenance. Work also includes substantial record keeping of work activities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Water Plant Superintendent.
· Starts and stops plant operations as necessary
· Makes tours of plant and inspects pumps, motors, tanks, filters, clarifiers, chlorinators, and other equipment for proper functioning; records data from various meters, gauges, and dials; makes records of readings and activities
· Makes routine physical and chemical. tests, recording results
· Performs general preventive and scheduled maintenance; assists on major maintenance and repairs
· Regulates and adjusts pumps, motors, valves, and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions
· Performs routine building maintenance and custodial functions; performs grounds maintenance such as mowing
· Change chemical containers and/or refills containers
· Takes after hour phone calls and reports to proper personnel
· Operate trucks, tractors, and other motorized equipment as necessary
Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency supplemented by course work in chemistry, biology, and math. Some experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment, preferably in a water treatment plant; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
· Valid NC driver’s license
· Water Operator Grade “C” certification issued by the State of North Carolina

Duties and Responsibilities Work
· Performs raking, mowing, edging, lawn watering, seeding, and sprigging grass, spreading fertilizers, dispensing herbicides, raking, pruning, weeding, tilling and various other grounds maintenance duties
· Maintains trees, shrubs, and flower beds by planting, pruning, trimming, removing weeds, and safely applying appropriate herbicides
· Prepare planting beds and pots by amending soil with fertilizer.
· Keep plants watered
· Monitor and maintain plant health
· Assists in the maintenance of the city operated cemetery
· Minor repairs to park signs, benches and other equipment and facility properties.
· Performs various maintenance duties on equipment and facilities utilized
· Operates various types of assigned grounds maintenance equipment, tractor, mower, chain saw, edger, tiller, weed eater, and other small equipment as required
· Assist with setting up and breaking down for special events hosted by the City of Hamlet which may include working some nights and weekends.
· Must utilize and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and always follow safety procedures.

Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for managing the City’s information technology systems including installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and software applications, troubleshooting and resolving equipment failures, serving as the local area network administrator, updating systems, coordinating network, hardware and software contractors, and implementing automated systems for existing manual systems. The employee also works with City staff to identify efficiencies that can be obtained by utilizing technology. Work involves planning, organizing, and daily support and operation for the systems. The employee recommends hardware and software systems for purchase, performs and/or coordinates installations, performs repairs, and software and user support and training. The employee works in an inside environment. Call back and weekend work may be required. General Statement of Duties
Performs general and special duty law enforcement work to protect life and property in the City.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class performs a full range of general law enforcement duties. Work includes patrolling the city during an assigned shift; preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments. Employees must exercise judgement, initiative and calm control when performing duties; more difficult problems are normally carried out under the direction of or in conjunction with a Police Sergeant. Work involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness, and decisiveness. Work is performed in accordance with departmental policy and state and federal law, supplemented with specific directions from supervisors. · Performs investigations of accidents or possible crimes through observation, questioning witnesses, and gathering physical evidence; performs investigative tasks, arrests, and processes criminal suspects; presents testimony in court
· Serves warrants and subpoenas; apprehends and processes criminal suspects and transports to magistrate and/or County detention facilities
· Regulates and directs vehicular traffic at local schools and when traffic signal malfunctions or accidents require
