Distinguishing Features of the Class
Employees in this class serve as a unit commander. The employee shall direct unit operations, monitor and evaluate work, review reports, provide back-up and expert guidance to staff. An employee in this class may be assigned to patrol, records and communications. Administrative work includes providing input on policy matters, recommending in-service training, conducting safety training, vehicle maintenance, scheduling manpower and completing time sheets for payroll. Supervisory responsibilities include managing the daily work activities of the unit, conducting employee performance counseling, mentoring, motivating and evaluating performance, conducting meetings to discuss and resolve operational problems, and being held accountable for the efficient operation of the unit. This work requires the application of modern law enforcement techniques, sound judgment, and independent initiative in pursuit of work objectives. Work includes monitoring the environment and the behavior of individuals;
Duties and Responsibilities Work
· Meets duties and tasks of a police officer
· Serves as commander of the patrol division.
· Serves warrants and subpoenas; apprehends and processes criminal suspects and transports to magistrate and/or County detention facilities
· Regulates and directs vehicular traffic at local schools and when traffic signal malfunctions or accidents require
· Operates a two-way radio to receive instructions and information from or to report information to police headquarters; maintains vehicle, weapons, and other equipment in standard working order.
· Advises the public on laws and local ordinances
· Develops and implements community outreach activities
· Mentor and monitor assigned staff
· Lead with ethical and legal obligations
· Maintain all fleet maintenance records
· Assists with fire and rescue calls as required
· Prepares and submits accurate written reports
· Assists with budget planning, tracking of expenditures, and processing expenditures.
Prepare monthly scheduling of all employees based on minimum coverage standards and all planned training.
· Ability to become certified Training Coordinator for the Agency
· Maintain all training records and scheduling for training of all staff members.
· Performs other related work as required
· Must achieve NCJA General Instructor within 1 year of hire. Specialized Instructor certification, such as Firearm Instructor, Axon Taser Instructor and/or HazMat Instructor, may be required depending on the necessity of the department after initial General Instructor certification.
· Serve as “On-Call” Detective on a rotating schedule for all administrative staff
· Willingness to attend additional training(s) deemed necessary by supervisor(s).
· Review and logging of body camera footage to determine training needs and policy/procedure adherence.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalency and have completed at least the minimum requirements established by the North Carolina Justice Training and Standards Commission for certified law enforcement officers.. Must have previous Police supervisory experience.

Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for managing the City’s information technology systems including installing, configuring, and maintaining hardware and software applications, troubleshooting and resolving equipment failures, serving as the local area network administrator, updating systems, coordinating network, hardware and software contractors, and implementing automated systems for existing manual systems. The employee also works with City staff to identify efficiencies that can be obtained by utilizing technology. Work involves planning, organizing, and daily support and operation for the systems. The employee recommends hardware and software systems for purchase, performs and/or coordinates installations, performs repairs, and software and user support and training. The employee works in an inside environment. Call back and weekend work may be required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the City Manager and is evaluated through conferences, records and reports, and successful implementation of automated environments and programs.

Performs general and special duty law enforcement work to protect life and property in the City.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class performs a full range of general law enforcement duties. Work includes patrolling the city during an assigned shift; preventing, detecting, and investigating disturbances and crime; performing traffic control work; apprehending suspects; and executing related assignments. Employees must exercise judgement, initiative and calm control when performing duties; more difficult problems are normally carried out under the direction of or in conjunction with a Police Sergeant. Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class participates in the operations of fire suppression and emergency medical services on an assigned shift. The employee performs a variety of technical, procedural, and regulatory methods and techniques relating to fire suppression and prevention, rescue, first aid, and equipment and apparatus operation. Responds to emergency situations requiring emergency medical attention and performs duties of an EMT. Acquires and maintains required State certification for Firefighter I and EMT. Work is performed under general supervision of the Fire Lieutenant.

Responds to fire alarms as a member of a firefighting team and participates in the control and suppression of all types of fires, including fires in residences, stores, offices and storage and other buildings as well as public assembly, institution, industrial, brush, vehicle, aircraft, and hazardous materials fires
May drive fire apparatus or other vehicles to incident scenes
Participates in rescue operations at fire scenes, accidents, hazardous areas, and other emergency situations
Renders first aid and assists other agencies in emergencies
